Ball for the Mall
June 10, 2017
The Trust for the National Mall celebrated its tenth anniversary as an official partner of the National Park Service with an evening benefit gala, the “Ball for the Mall.” The event hosted more than 750 guests on the grounds of the National Mall, for an evening of food and fellowship in support of the Trust’s mission to improve, preserve and restore the National Mall.
Massive structure tents by Select kept the spring showers at bay while guests enjoyed cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres and a specialty bar stocked with whiskeys from George Washington’s Mount Vernon Distillery.
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer served as the Master of Ceremonies for the program, which included a celebration of accomplishments and a look ahead to continued progress.
As the centerpiece of the event program, the Trust for the National Mall honored businessman and philanthropist David Rubenstein with the History, Heroes and Hope Award for his dedication and continued support in restoring and improving the National Mall. Award-winning author and Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley presented Rubenstein with the honor. The event also honored Volkswagen Group of America with the Distinction in Corporate Service Award as recognition for a generous $10 million gift.
Dinner featured a springy salad of Gulf shrimp, gingered grapefruit, black sesame crisps with little gem lettuce, watercress sauce and fresh nasturtium blossoms.
After dinner, the party continued with live music by The Source, dancing and a grand dessert buffet presented on Occasions’ custom ‘National Mall’ display tables.
