Not much can top a lazy summer afternoon spent sipping sangria and sharing tapas with friends. AJAX, a hip new DC event space with an urban-chic vibe, was the perfect spot for the relaxed repast.
Small bite tapas dishes like Montaditos (toasts topped with pequito peppers filled with avocado crema and braised beef short ribs with Manchego crumbles) were presented in the traditional way on picks and skewers.Tasty veal and pork meatballs (Albóndigas), in a rich almond and saffron sauce, filled small terracotta crocks.
Deviled eggs (Huevos Endiablados ), made in the Spanish style, were topped with tiny filets of white anchovy and dusted with aleppo pepper. Spanish olives were mixed with saffron-roasted cauliflower and feta cheese.
A hearty grilled octopus salad (Ensalada de Pulpo) included cherry tomatoes, chickpeas, onions and pimento in a tangy lemon-parsley vinaigrette.Tapas bar favorite, Patatas Bravas, roasted potatoes in a rich tomato bravas sauce, were finished with a creamy espellette aïoli.Good food, good friends and good times – the perfect way to pass a summer’s day!
