The Mellon Auditorium was transformed for a very unique double birthday party that took guests on a whirlwind tour of deserts, woodlands and crystal caverns. The hosts kept the scope and style of their party plans secret so guests were delighted at every turn as the magical evening unfolded.
The lobby of the Mellon became desert oasis cocktail lounge created by textured lighting on the building’s stone archways, scenic scrims, natural linens, stone standing cabs and a custom-built waterfall bar.
Prosecco Cocktails with Blackberry Lemonade and a splash of Creme de Violette Liqueur and Pear Martinis were offered with an array of autumny Hors d’Oeuvres: Cauliflower Soup Sips, Tea-smoked Duck Breast on Wonton Crisps, Chicken Tikka Masala Dosa, and Radish Barquettes filled with Cold-smoked Trout.
Guests moved into the Auditorium for dinner under a lush canopy of live trees, greens and flowers. Onyx chargers, etched goblets, twig-patterned flatware, church linen napkins and chace taper candles set an enchanted woodland tone.
Quail, glazed with Dark Miso and Anise, was served in a Fig Leaf Parcel with grilled Mission Figs; a plate of Spruce-cured Arctic Char with Golden Beets and Sauce Verte was presented on a mat of Moss, Ferns and Wild Flowers; and finally, a Rye-berry Crusted Veal Chop with a confit of Potatoes completed the meal.
A great party takes a great team. Here are the folks who made it happen:
