The First Green Caterer in the Nation
At Occasions, we are committed to environmental responsibility during our events and in our day-to-day operations. We believe in creating events using environmentally sound practices. As part of that ongoing commitment, Occasions works closely with The Green Restaurant Association™, a national environmental organization, to implement eco-friendly, on-site practices. In 2008, Occasions was recognized as the nation’s first Certified Green Restaurant Caterer. This is a designation that has become a standard for the catering industry.
Some of our green initiatives include:
- A state-of-the-art water filtration and bottling system to supply our offices, kitchen and events with still and sparkling bottled waters
- Integrate local and sustainable ingredients in our menus
- Use biodegradable service-ware
- Brew organic fair-trade coffee
- Implement water conservation system
- Utilize a comprehensive waste and disposal program
- Compost used cooking oil
- Consolidate deliveries
- On-site reusable energy
With Occasions, you can have exceptional and responsible events without sacrificing taste and style.
At Occasions, our culinary team works hard to research and procure the best local options for a large variety of foods we use. Much of our fresh produce, meat, fish, poultry, dry goods, cheeses, eggs, dairy, beverages and even disposable items are locally sourced. The benefit of buying locally is two-fold: a reduced carbon footprint and the unmatched quality and flavor of fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Stepping up to the Plate
We believe in lending our time and talent to organizations, both local and national, who engage in awareness-building, education and fundraising. Every year, we partner with non-profits and service organizations to add style and value to their fundraising events. Work that is particularly meaningful to us focuses on the efforts to end hunger. Connecting communities and families in need with healthy food and nutrition is a priority for Occasions.
As an active leader in the DC community, we’re proud to have partnered with so many effective organizations to help achieve our common goals.
